I have dedicated my life to public service, as a leader, collaborator and contributor to transformational change. From my early days as a soldier, often working in operational and challenging environments, to leading one of the UK’s most progressive foundations, especially on their journey of relational philanthropy, empowering communities and building trust alongside common values.
My experience of working in complex governance and organisational transformation is marked by a strong commitment to a more inclusive and adaptive model of leadership, that values the voices and actions of others, while contributing to a unifying social purpose. This experience applies equally to my executive, non-executive and consulting roles.
Experienced board member, former chair and trustee, driven by a strong ambition to contribute to public good. On this I can draw upon 40 years of leadership experience especially working in the charitable sector, with a life shaped and motivated by my early experiences.
Recently led the Rank Foundation's strategy of transformational change, with an endowment of £280M and an annual spend of £12M. Significant cross-sector experience in developing and delivering innovative and impactful social value programmes with a wide range of non-profits, major corporates, private philanthropists, UK government & local authorities. With a strong emphasis on 'place' & community building, especially around collaborative, social value programmes.
A graduate of the Future Vision senior leadership programme, working in the UK, Harvard and MIT, on system change, storytelling and adaptive leadership, Guest lecturer at the Università Cattolica di Milano, on a Masters in Philanthropy programme, I retain a keen interest in developing philanthropic strategies, working with foundations, families and individual clients operating in the social investment sector.
Board member of the newly launched Dragonfly Trust, connecting corporates and foundations to work together on shared purpose. Also working with Leadership for Conservation in Africa (LCA) aimed at creating a new generation of resilient, robust and entrepreneurial leaders, better equipped to navigate the complexities of conservation in Africa.
